San Francisco 49ers Get Massive Update on Brock Purdy Injury Suffered in Loss to Rams

The San Francisco 49ers have one of the most talented rosters in the NFL. This, and the fact that they are the defending NFC Champions, is why many believed they would be serious contenders for a Super Bowl title this season.

Unfortunately, in addition to having one of the most talented rosters in the league, the 49ers also have one of the most banged up rosters. Star running back Christian McCaffrey is yet to play in a game this year and is currently on injured reserve.

In addition to McCaffrey, San Francisco stars George Kittle and Deebo Samuel are also hurt and missed the 49ers’ 27-24 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday.

And now it sounds like quarterback Brock Purdy is also ailing.

According to head coach Kyle Shanahan, Purdy suffered a back injury in San Francisco’s loss to the Rams on Sunday. An MRI on Monday ruled out any significant damage and the Pro Bowl quarterback is considered day-to-day.

This is certainly good news for 1-2 49ers team that is in desperate need of a positive development. As seen in Ian Rapoport’s post above, San Francisco has unfortunately lost defensive tackle Javon Hargrave for the season due to a torn tricep.

The 49ers next game will be Sunday afternoon against the lowly New England Patriots. The hope is that Purdy will be healthy enough to take the field at that point.

Playing without two of his best weapons in the passing game, Samuel and Kittle, Purdy proved a great many people wrong who believed that his success should be attributed to the playmakers around him.

Purdy completed 22 of 30 passes for 292 yards and three touchdowns, all of which went to Jauan Jennings, who had 11 receptions for 175 yards.

In addition, the 49ers quarterback ran for 41 yards on 10 rushing attempts.

Hopefully he will be healthy enough to play again on Sunday so that he can continue to prove his doubters wrong.
