When the San Francisco 49ers used the very last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft on Brock Purdy, there were very few who thought he would make the team, much less end up as their franchise quarterback. But injuries to Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo forced the former Mr. Irrelevant into the starting role late in the season. And the job has been his ever since.

In five starts to end the 2022 season, Purdy led the 49ers to a 5-0 record while completing 67.1% of his passes for 1,374 yards, 13 touchdowns, four interceptions, and a 107.3 passer rating.

The following year, Purdy earned his first career Pro Bowl nod, completing 69.4% of his passes for 4,280 yards, 31 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, and an NFL-best 113.0 passer rating.

At that point, it became clear that San Francisco’s search for a franchise quarterback was over and that a massive contract extension was coming soon.

When he first signed with the 49ers, Purdy received a $77,000 signing bonus to go with his four-year $3.7 million deal.

On Friday, multiple NFL reporters posted on X that San Francisco has given Purdy a five-year $265 million contract extension, which includes $181 million in guaranteed money and $165 million in the first three years of the deal.

The #49ers and QB Brock Purdy agreed to terms on a five-year, $265 million contract extension, his agent Kyle Strongin of @RangeSports tells The Insiders.

The $53 million annual average salary in this contract is tied for the seventh-highest in the NFL. Jared Goff of the Detroit Lions also makes $53 million a year.

Purdy is coming off of a down year which saw his offense crumble around him with various injuries. Still, he was able to complete 65.9% of his passes for 3,864 yards, 20 touchdowns, 12 interceptions, and a 96.1 passer rating.
