Former Dallas Cowboys backup quarterback Trey Lance will look to continue his career with a different team following a short stint with the NFC East division franchise.
Lance has taken his talents to the Los Angeles Chargers after signing a one-year contract with the Bolts. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Lance’s deal with the Chargers is worth $6.2 million.
Although Lance has left Arlington, Cowboys star quarterback Dak Prescott let his former backup know that he’s pulling for him.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Prescott shared the Chargers’ welcome message for Lance and wrote: “Yesssir! LFG.”

Lance was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the first round (third overall) of the 2021 NFL draft. He played two seasons with the Niners before being traded to the Cowboys in the summer of 2023.
However, the Cowboys declined to pick up his $22.4 million option for the 2025 season, so it was not exactly a surprise that Dallas let him go this offseason.
In only four appearances, including a lone start with the Cowboys, Lance threw for only 266 passing yards with zero touchdowns and an interception.
Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott gets positive injury update

Prescott, who only played eight games in 2024 due to a hamstring injury that needed a season-ending surgery, appears to be on track to see action by the time the 2025 season rolls around.
“Dak’s doing great,” Cowboys executive vice president and COO Stephen Jones recently said about Prescott (via Jon Machota of The Athletic). “He’s coming along. He’s very thrilled with where he is. And I know the trainers are too. I feel like he’s doing a hell of a job.”
In 2024, Prescott passed for 1,978 yards and 11 touchdowns with eight interceptions on a 64.7 percent completion rate, as the Cowboys finished the season just third in the NFC East with a 7-10 record to miss the NFL playoffs.
