Brandon Aiyuk seems to believe that the San Francisco 49ers underutilized him during their heartbreaking Super Bowl loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. The 25-year-old wide receiver, who has been in excellent form for the Niners for pretty much the entire season, came out with a cryptic post shortly after his team came up short in the big game, which naturally, garnered all sorts of reactions.
New York Jets star Sauce Gardner has chimed in on the discussion, and he seems to be taking Aiyuk’s side in the debate.
Sauce Gardner Throws Shade at San Francisco 49ers
Sauce recently caught wind of a clip that has been making its rounds on social media wherein former NFL OLB turned ESPN analyst Emmanuel Acho questioned Aiyuk’s cryptic comments after the loss. Gardner responded by sharing his honest thoughts on what Aiyuk brings to the table and why he believes the Niners should have given him more chances:
“Aiyuk is one WR I see who gets open the majority of the game but don’t get thrown the ball. And he can win in contested situations so even if he’s not wide open, he should get the opportunity to make a play on the ball instead of throwing it away,” Gardner wrote.
There is some speculation that Aiyuk is no longer a happy camper in San Francisco. This is going to be a polarizing topic this offseason, especially if the trade rumors get louder.
Acho and Gardner have shared their two cents worth on this situation and I’m pretty sure there’s going to be more folks out there who will have a thing or two to say about this.
Whatever the case might be, Aiyuk is still a Niner. At least for now. There’s just no way to tell what tomorrow holds, though.
