The Pittsburgh Steelers signed veteran quarterback Russell Wilson to a one-year deal on Sunday night to be their starting quarterback, and it would be one heck of a week for the rest of the quarterback room.
Pittsburgh Steelers Were Making Moves
Kenny Pickett, the Steelers’ first-round pick in 2022, wasn’t pleased about being Wilson’s backup and was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles on Friday. Then, on Saturday, the Steelers made a huge move, trading for Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields.
Fields has been a starter for three years in the NFL, but it didn’t work out in Chicago. He could return to his winning ways with the Steelers, but he will have to wait a year because Russell Wilson is supposed to be the starter in 2024, leaving Fields as the backup.
Russell Wilson Seems Very Happy
Wilson went to X on Saturday night and posted a picture of him and Fields shaking hands after they played each other last season, and Wilson said Let’s get it, Justin Fields! QB’s room is about to be fire, but instead of the word fire, he uses three fire emojis.
Let’s get it @justnfields!

Wilson is excited to be Field’s mentor for a season. This is a perfect spot for Fields. He gets to sit behind one of the best quarterbacks we have seen in the last 15 years, and Wilson has been a winner in this league, winning a Super Bowl and almost another, so he can show Fields how to win.
It’s nice to see Russell Wilson excited about Fields, and it is good for them and the entire team that they want to work together.
