After seeing the news that the Denver Broncos are going to release Super Bowl-winning quarterback Russell Wilson and swallow an $85 million dead cap hit, there have been questions surrounding the future of the 2012 third-round pick. It sounds like he still wants to be a starting NFL quarterback and there are some teams that may be interested in his services.
Wilson did not have a bad season as he was 297-of-447 (66.4 completion percentage) for 3,070 yards with 26 touchdowns to eight interceptions. However, he was benched by coach Sean Payton and things did not work out. But now being able to sign for the league minimum, where will Wilson be heading in 2024?
Russell Wilson Landing Spot #1: New England Patriots
If the New England Patriots want to make a splash and use the 2025 NFL draft to get a young quarterback, there are worse moves than a veteran Wilson under center. This gives the Pats the chance to draft wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr and create buzz for coach Jerod Mayo. While New England have been interested in a few veteran quarterbacks this offseason, Wilson provides the best upside for the cheapest price.
Russell Wilson Landing Spot #2: Pittsburgh Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers continue to have mediocre to just bad quarterback play and getting into the postseason. With coach Mike Tomlin leading the way, this Steelers team could do a lot better with Russell Wilson under center than Kenny Pickett. This offense has a lot of talent and should be able to step up with him under center for the veteran minimum in the Steel City.
Russell Wilson Landing Spot #3: Tampa Bay Buccaneers
While this may seem out of the blue, there is a chance that Baker Mayfield gets a major contract offer and leaves for another team. If that happens, the Bucs can call Wilson and sign him to a deal that allows him to be the starting quarterback for a playoff team.
Having weapons like Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and Russell Gage out wide, there is a great chance for him to continue doing well. In a very winnable division, he could lead the Buccaneers to double-digit wins by keeping the ball out of harm’s way and pair up with coach Todd Bowles.
