The New England Patriots are in a transitionary phase as they are looking at the first season without Bill Belichick calling the shots. One thing the team needs to address is the quarterback situation as Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe do not appear to be the answer under center. According to Mass Live reporters Karen Guregian, Mark Daniels and Chris Mason, the Pats are interested in three veteran quarterbacks to add in free agency.
The three quarterbacks are Jacoby Brissett, Gardner Minshew and Joe Flacco. None of these are spectacular quarterbacks and seem to be more of a bridge quarterback for the franchise. This gives the team the ability to draft a quarterback and have them sit the bench for the season while learning the NFL without having to take the blows behind an inferior team.
With the New England Patriots ready to be in last place in a loaded AFC East for a second consecutive season, this could be a year of growing and getting more talent for coach Jerod Mayo. They can decide to draft a quarterback this year or use a bridge quarterback and wait until 2025 where players like Quinn Ewers, Shedeur Sanders and Jalen Milroe are among the top QBs.
What should the New England Patriots do with the quarterback position in 2024?
The New England Patriots are in an interesting position and could be a good fit for a veteran quarterback to take a one-year starting job. However, one quarterback who was not named may be a better fit as he is still under contract but is expected to become a free agent. If he does, expect the Patriots to look his way.
Russell Wilson has shown to be a strong quarterback Russell Wilson as he had 26 touchdowns to eight interceptions with the Denver Broncos last season. However, he is expected to be cut after being benched last season. For a veteran’s minimum contract, why not let Wilson be the bridge quarterback as he reclaims his value and the Pats could realistically compete with potentially drafting wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. with the third pick in the 2024 NFL draft?
That gives the front office the leeway to draft a quarterback in 2025 and use Wilson as a placeholder. There are some interesting decisions to be made all around.

The QB I would like to see on the Patriots would be JJ McCarthy. I hear he could be in the top 5 . And Michigan Wolverines player , thinking like what the Patriots did when they got Tom Brady from same college.
