A star Denver Broncos player has listed their home for sale with about a month to go before free agency begins. The Broncos have a few big question marks on their roster heading into the offseason.
The biggest issue head coach Sean Payton must address is the quality position. The Broncos benched star quarterback Russell Wilson at the end of the season, even after the veteran was putting up top-ten numbers in the league for the 2023 regular season. Wilson’s benching was reportedly for money reasons.
The Denver Broncos have a door open for their QB
Per Sports Illustrated, Broncos general manager George Paton said in January the team was open to keeping Wilson for the 2024 season:
“The door remains open with ‘Russ,'” Paton said. “I’ve had good conversations with Russ, and Sean has had good conversations. The door is open. We’ll get through the process, and we’ll visit with the coaching staff and scouting staff. We’ll visit with Russ and his people, and we’ll go from there.”
Russell Wilson put his Denver area home up for sale
Wilson made a significant move recently to indicate his time in Denver is over. Per Thomas Gounley of the Denver Post, the most expensive home in the Denver area is on the market:
Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson and singer-songwriter wife Ciara are accepting offers, and providing tours to prospective buyers, for the mansion they own in Cherry Hills Village, sources tell BusinessDen.
The couple did not respond to requests for comment made through their foundation.
The couple paid $25 million for the home on Cherry Hills Park Drive in April 2022, weeks after Wilson was traded to the Broncos by the Seattle Seahawks. At the time, the previous record for a Denver-area home sale was $16 million.
Wilson’s time in Denver appears over
Wilson seems to know his time in Denver is over. Because of Wilson’s contract, the Broncos won’t be able to find a trade partner for Wilson this offseason. They’ll have to cut him if they want to save some cash. Wilson can join any team on the league minimum and stick the rest of his due salary to the Broncos organization.
The Broncos starting quarterback for the 2024 season probably can’t afford Wilson’s mansion. The prospects for the Broncos in 2024 look dim after how they handled the Wilson trade and subsequent seasons.
