The Washington Commanders own the second overall selection in the 2024 NFL Draft and the Chicago Bears own the first selection. Washington and Chicago will both most likely select a quarterback.
However, that may not stop the Commanders from moving up one spot with the Bears anyway. According to Pro Football Focus lead draft analyst and co-host of the NFL Stock Exchange, Trevor Sikkema, he thinks that it can very well happen.
Sikkema said on YouTube:
“Washington is exploring all options. There were recent reports they were thinking about trading down. I don’t know if they’re going to trade down because they’ve got the opportunity to take a quarterback, and they really need one, and I think they’re going to make that call. I do think they are putting together a legitimate proposal to move up to No. 1. Essentially, they’re going to make Chicago say no.”
Washington does have two second-round picks in the 2024 NFL Draft. The Commanders currently have Sam Howell, Jacoby Brissett, and Jacob Fromm on the roster at the quarterback position. No matter who they take in the 2024 NFL Draft, it is going to be a major upgrade for this franchise at the position.
If the Washington Commanders Traded With the Chicago Bears For the Number One Overall Pick, Expect Them to Take Quarterback Caleb Williams From USC
It would make a lot of sense for the Commanders to take quarterback Caleb Williams from USC if they acquired the number one overall selection from the Chicago Bears. Williams is a Washington D.C. native and he would be playing for his hometown team.
Also, the new offensive coordinator for head coach Dan Quinn is Kliff Kingsbury. Kingsbury was the offensive coordinator last season at USC. He completed 68.8% of his passes for 3,633 yards, 30 touchdowns, and five interceptions last season in college.
Caleb Williams would be the choice for them over Drake Maye of North Carolina and Jayden Daniels of LSU with this trade. Williams would be the Commanders’ quarterback for the next decade. Washington trading up potentially with Chicago is a storyline to potentially watch for over the next month.
