Roger Goodell’s strong statement on Brian Flores coaching future
Former Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores brought a lawsuit against the NFL and three teams. Flores is alleging a widespread pattern of racial discrimination against minority coaches in the league. Flores isn’t the only coach to bring up racial discrimination in the NFL’s coaching ranks, Jim Caldwell’s situation is probably the most egregious in recent memory. Roger Goodell was asked about the case during the League Annual Meeting this week.
According to the NFL’s website, Goodell said he couldn’t talk about the case. However, Goodell said he respects Flores and thinks he’s a great football coach:
“I can’t talk specifically about the case,” Goodell said. “I would tell you this, I’m a huge fan of Brian Flores. He’s a great football coach, and I have great respect for him as a man. I think the Vikings are lucky to have him as a defensive coordinator. I think he’s going to continue to be a successful coach in the NFL. We’ll see on the case, we did have a quick update on that. The decision the judge has made recently, which our attorney said they thought was the appropriate step. So, we’ll keep an eye on that.”
Flores was hired as the Minnesota Vikings’ defensive coordinator this offseason.
