REPORT: NFL Is Reportedly “Investigating” Mac Jones

The New England Patriots suffered a brutal loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Saturday.  At halftime, the Patriots found themselves down 22-0.  They almost battled all the way back but eventually fell short 22-18.  At one point in the game Mac Jones was caught on camera doing something that many deemed a “dirty play.”  Now the NFL is reportedly looking into it.

Mac Jones Is Being Investigated For A Dirty Hit:

The hit took place during Saturday’s game between New England and the Cincinnati Bengals. Cincinnati linebacker Germaine Pratt returned what was believed to be a Jones fumble down the left sideline with Jones giving chase. Eli Apple, a Bengals cornerback, trailed the play as Patriots receiver Tyquan Thornton also gave chase.  Here is a video of the play:

I’d argue this is worthy of a suspension and a big fine from Mac Jones.

Officials ruled that Jones threw an incomplete pass instead of fumbling the ball.  Therefore the return didn’t stand in the Bengals’ 22-18 win.  Officials’ didn’t flag Jones for a penalty. After the game, Apple was candid in his assessment of Jones’ dive.

“He tripped me,” Apple told reporters. “I thought it was a dirty play. He’s done that before. I’ve seen it.”

Mac Jones was asked about the hit and defended his actions:

“I went down in front of him to kind of get in the way to stop him from slowing down Tyquan, who obviously could make the tackle there” Jones said. “So just kind of went down in front of him, trying to stop a fast guy from getting to another fast guy. It’s a split-second decision, and there’s a lot that goes into it.”

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Jones will be fined $11,139 for his low block on Apple. It happened after a change of possession; by rule, all blocks below the waist are a violation at that point.  It is unclear if that is where the punishment will end for Jones.  Eagles CB Darius Slay commented on the hit:
