The New York Giants defense has not played well against the run this season and there also has been a massive issue in the secondary. Cornerback Deonte Banks has struggled during his second NFL season. He was the 23rd overall pick (first-round selection) in the 2023 NFL Draft out of Maryland.

During his rookie season, Banks showed a lot of potential as a shutdown corner. It appears as if he has lost confidence during his second NFL season.
New York Giants Cornerback Deonte Banks Could Play His Way Off the Roster In 2025

There have been issues this season with the way Banks has performed, especially giving up on various plays. He has benched this season by head coach Brian Daboll for series. According to Mike Luciano of gmenhq.com, four players could very well be playing their way off the roster.
One of the players he has listed is cornerback Deonte Banks. Luciano said about Banks:
“Banks’ play has been disappointing this season, but not awful. However, the big issue with 2023’s first-round pick has been his lack of effort. Between outright refusing to make a play on a Jalen Hurts run and getting in similar trouble against the Steelers, Banks is not held in high regard right now.
As long as he keeps showing some fight, the Giants will continue to work with this extremely talented player. However, things could easily go sideways if he keeps showing a lack of fight.”
Already Thin At Cornerback

The cornerback position is not a position of strength on the Giants’ defense. Banks has a lot of talent and he will need to play better after the bye week. What if switching from Daniel Jones to either Drew Lock or Tommy DeVito at quarterback sparks this defense?
There might be something true to this statement. The defense played much harder last season when Tyrod Taylor or Tommy Devito played quarterback compared to Daniel Jones. Could benching Jones ignite a spark in this football team? Well, Banks needs to prove himself in the second half since they are thin at cornerback outside of Banks and Cor’Dale Flott.
