Ezekiel Elliott likely not playing for Dallas in 2023
The Dallas Cowboys made moves this offseason that seemed to show they were moving on from Ezekiel Elliott as their number-one running back. The Cowboys applied the franchise tag to running back Tony Pollard for the 2023 season. It would be assumed the Cowboys would look to sign Pollard to a long-term deal. The Cowboys wouldn’t be eager then to keep Elliott and have two expensive running back salaries on the books.
According to Clarence Hill Jr. with the Fort Worth Star Telegram, Elliott will likely be a post-June 1st release, allowing the Cowboys to recoup nearly $11 million in cap space.
This is the likely choice, sources confirm. Not official. But very real chance Zeke Elliott has played his last down in Dallas (and would be a post-June 1 release). https://t.co/yxzh5XPcf4

The former first-round selection by the Cowboys made three Pro Bowl appearances. But he hasn’t made a Pro Bowl since the 2019 season. The 27-year-old running back will surely attract offers from other teams around the league if and when he’s cut from the Cowboys this summer.
