Zach Ertz Injury
The big-name tight end will miss the games against the Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns, Atlanta Falcons, and Houston Texans. This injury certainly happened at a not-so-convenient time as quarterback Kyler Murray is set to return to the field in the next couple of weeks. The Cardinals will have to step up big time if they want to win any of these upcoming games against strong opponents.
Ertz has been off to a slow start this season and has not shown any signs of picking it up. He has amounted to just 187 total yards and a touchdown through seven games. One factor that could play into this is the current quarterback Joshua Dobbs filling in the void at quarterback while Murray continues his recovery. The two players seem out of sync and do not seem to be performing to their potential.
Arizona Cardinals Tight End Issues
Over the last couple of weeks, the second-year tight end Trey McBride has emerged as the team’s best option at tight end. McBride has gone for 170 yards receiving this season but has shown potential to be great. Even without the injury, Ertz looked as if his best years were behind him, and could lead to him retiring soon.
Ertz played with the Philadelphia Eagles from 2013 to 2021 before joining the Cardinals via trade in 2021. Over his career, he has gone for 7,434 receiving yards and 46 touchdowns. He will go down as one of the better tight ends to play in the NFL, but it looks as if his long and storied career is coming to an end.
