The No. 3 Texas football team (10-1) could have extra adversity during their final game of the regular season on Saturday. The Longhorns are set to play No. 2 Texas A&M (8-3) at Kyle Field.
The game’s winner will clinch a spot in the SEC Championship Game to play Georgia on Dec. 7 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The two rivals have not played since the 2011 season, a contest Texas won 27-25.
Quinn Ewers suffered an ankle injury against Kentucky
Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers suffered an ankle injury during the Longhorns’ 31-14 win at home in Week 13. Texas leaned on the running game in the second half of that game. On Sunday, an MRI revealed Ewers had no structural damage. Still, it was unclear if the junior from Southlake, Texas would have limited mobility against the Aggies.
Per Chip Brown with 24/7 Sports, Ewers’ ankle isn’t progressing how the team expected it to before Saturday’s matchup. Ewers was seen wearing a “stiff brace” during practice on Tuesday and Wednesday.
“Quinn took the first snaps with the first team offense, but he was definitely limited,” a source told Brown.
So, another quarterback took first-team snaps this week. One would assume that would be Arch Manning, who has relieved Ewers at several points this season.
Texas football has two options to start at QB on Saturday
Ewers has thrown for 2,089 yards, 23 touchdowns and six interceptions in 2024. He’s started in nine games this season, missing two starts due to an abdominal injury.
Manning made two starts in Ewers’ absence. The freshman has thrown for 939 yards, nine touchdowns and two interceptions.
