Former NFL star Antonio Brown was a controversial player during his playing career, and has remained controversial in retirement with his outlandish social media presence. It appears, though, that Brown may not be on social media for a while, as a warrant has been issued for his arrest over a very serious charge.

Per the Washington Post, Miami-Dade police have issued a warrant for Brown’s arrest on a charge of attempted murder.

According to the Washington Post, “Authorities in Miami-Dade County are seeking to arrest former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown on a charge of attempted murder stemming from a shooting at a celebrity boxing event in May, according to a warrant reviewed by The Washington Post.

“The warrant, which was signed by a judge Wednesday, lists a charge of attempted murder with a firearm and calls for Brown to post a $10,000 bond and remain under house arrest pending trial. Efforts to reach Brown, 36, were unsuccessful Thursday evening; it was unclear whether he was represented by an attorney. A spokesman for the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office declined to comment.”

Per the Post, Brown was initially detained by police who responded to the scene back in May, but was later released.

The alleged attempted murder occurred on the night of May 16. Witnesses identified Brown as the shooter. According to the warrant, Brown did not have a weapon on him when they responded to the scene, but did find two spent shell casings and an empty holster.

After being released by police, Brown posted on social media that he had been jumped by several individuals who were trying to steal his jewelry.

The Post reports that security footage at the event show Brown initiating the altercation by punching another man. It also states that Brown appeared to have taken a gun off of a security officer and running towards the man that he punched. The victim in the case claims that Brown fired two shots at him, with one of the bullets grazing his neck.

Brown spent 12 years in the NFL, playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers, New England Patriots, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
