Former Washington State quarterback Cam Ward was one of the top transfer portal targets of the offseason. On January 1st, he announced that he would be declaring for the NFL Draft. A mere two weeks later, Ward has changed his mind. It was announced today that Ward has committed to the Miami Hurricanes.

QB Cam Ward Commits To The Miami Hurricanes
It is easy to see why Ward was the top transfer portal quarterback. He has thrown for over 6,300 yards and 43 touchdowns while adding another 16 touchdowns on the ground. After Tyler Van Dyke transferred to Wisconsin, the Hurricanes needed to figure out the quarterback position. It seems that even after Ward declared for the draft, head coach Mario Cristobal was still trying to get the talented quarterback to Miami. This is a huge get for the program and one that puts them right back in the conversation for the ACC title.
2024 Outlook
Now that they have a top quarterback, Miami is looking dangerous. They have landed a bunch of talent in the portal and have their sights set on an ACC title. The Hurricanes kick off the season in The Swamp as they travel to take on the Gators. From there, games against Florida State, Syracuse, and Louisville are likely the toughest on the schedule. Having a quarterback completely changes the outlook for the team. If Ward can be the best quarterback in the conference, the Hurricanes could make a push for the College Football Playoff.
Cam Ward surprised everyone on Saturday night. Say what you want about the transfer portal, but you cannot deny that it makes for some exciting drama.
