The Pittsburgh Steelers have issues with quarterback Kenny Pickett being injured again this season. Pickett suffered an ankle injury that required him to get surgery, which will cause him to miss some significant time. The team’s current backup option is Mitchell Trubisky, who finished the game against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. Now, it is being reported that the Steelers have signed another veteran quarterback.

Pittsburgh Steelers Sign Veteran Quarterback To Practice Squad
The team has signed quarterback Trace McSorley to the practice squad while Pickett tries to recover from his surgery. McSorley has been all over the league but has not found success with any team he has been on. He has gone for just 502 passing yards, a touchdown, and five interceptions in his career, and was recently on the practice squad for the Chicago Bears before coming to Pittsburgh.
While McSorley will most likely not see any playing time, if something were to happen to Trubisky, he would most likely have to be called up to the 53-man roster. He did not perform well when he started, but maybe he would be able to find more success in Pittsburgh. With Pickett gone for at least a couple of weeks and Trubisky getting the start, McSorley getting elevated is a real possibility.
Kenny Pickett Injury
Pickett was injured in the second quarter with five minutes on the clock before halftime. He scrambled on a third down play, dove for the end zone and was tackled from behind while taking a shot to his upper body by Cardinals defenders before hitting the field around the three-yard line. He limped off of the field under his power but was then taken to the locker room after a further examination and was ruled out during halftime.
Pittsburgh is currently 7-5 and sitting in second place in the highly competitive AFC North division. They will face the struggling New England Patriots on Thursday this week, which should be a winnable game for the Steelers even with a backup quarterback. For now, Trubisky will be taking snaps under center, but if something happens to him too, we could see McSorley in action in the coming weeks depending on the status of Pickett.
