The Pittsburgh Steelers are dealing with a potential quarterback crisis. That is because the expected starting QB, Russell Wilson, is dealing with apparent calf tightness that has made his status for the Steelers’ Week 1 game against the Atlanta Falcons uncertain.
Today’s practice offers us more insight as to whether Wilson will recover in time for Sunday’s clash in Atlanta. What happened in that practice? Read below to find out.
Justin Fields Taking More Quarterback Snaps
According to Brooke Pryor of ESPN, it was Justin Fields taking the majority of the quarterback snaps in today’s practice for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Russell Wilson spent the majority of that same practice on the sidelines. As a result, it has created more speculation as to whether Wilson will be ok by the time Sunday’s kickoff rolls around.
Russell Wilson’s Comments on Calf
Pryor also spoke to Russell Wilson during today’s practice. He had some reassuring comments for Steelers fans, noting he is optimistic that he can still recover in time for Sunday’s game. Here is what Pryor tweeted about this:
“Russell Wilson says he’s taking it day by day, and he wants to play Sunday if he’s able. Nothing concrete, but Russ expressed optimism. Said he felt funny yesterday in practice, additionally imaging showed them “good news” — the aggravation wasn’t more severe than feared” -Brooke Pryor
Pittsburgh Steelers Moving Forward
For now, we do not have confirmation as to who will be the quarterback in Sunday’s game. However, both of these quarterbacks were acquired to help improve upon the pitiful offense that was the Steelers last season. Now, it appears both quarterbacks are preparing to be the one to have to step up in Week 1.
