The quarterback position is a major point of concern for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Even though they still have Kenny Pickett, the Steelers are a team that many view could use a change in scenery under center, which is also why the name of Justin Fields has often been linked to the team. But there’s also Mason Rudolph, whom the Steelers want to retain amid the looming 2024 NFL free agency.
The Pittsburgh Steelers Don’t Have Full Control Of Mason Rudolph’s Outlook
But the desire to have Rudolph back in Pittsburgh isn’t enough for the Steelers to keep him in the fold. They no longer have full control of Rudolph, who is looking to test the waters of free agency. The Pittsburgh Steelers can always put an offer on the table for Rudolph but it’s uncertain how much money they are willing to spend on the quarterback in order to convince him to stay.
“I think every player owes it to themselves,” Pittsburgh Steelers general manager general manager Omar Khan said, referring to Rudolph potentially checking out what’s out there in NFL free agency (h/t Steelers Now’s Alan Saunders). “I don’t know at the end of the day. It’s still a few weeks until the start of the league year. We’d like to have him back and I believe he’d like to come back and compete. He likes it here, and we’ve had a good experience with Mason,” Khan added.
In any case, the Steelers remain a team to watch with regard to the quarterback position, as they only have one QB (Pickett) under contract for the 2024 NFL season.
