The Pittsburgh Steelers are in serious jeopardy of missing the playoffs. They have lost their last three games and are looking for any answer to snap this losing streak. Now, this update may help get them in the right direction.
Cameron Heyward Exits Concussion Protocol
According to Burt Lauten, who is the Pittsburgh Steelers Senior Director of Communications, DT Cameron Heyward has been cleared by an independent neurological consultant. As a result, he will exit the NFL’s concussion protocol. This is a very positive sign that Heyward could return for Saturday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
What This Means for the Pittsburgh Steelers
It means that they do not lose one of their key defensive players for one of their most important games of the 2023 NFL season. Last week, there were concerns that Heyward suffered a concussion during the Week 15 loss against the Indianapolis Colts. Now, those concerns get put to bed.
On top of this, Heyward has already missed six games earlier this season. That was due to a groin injury. Now, this update prevents Heyward from missing additional time.
In eight games this season, Heyward has two sacks and 23 solo tackles. One of Heyward’s sacks this season came during the Steelers’ first meeting with the Bengals. Pittsburgh will hope he can replicate that on Saturday.
