The Philadelphia Eagles put up a brutal performance in their season finale against the New York Giants, losing 27-10. In defeat, the Eagles potentially lost a bright rookie defender for next week’s playoff game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Per NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, safety Sydney Brown suffered what’s believed to be a torn ACL on Sunday.

Brown entered the season finale healthy, but initial reports suggest he will miss the team’s postseason. Additionally, an ACL injury late in the season jeopardizes his 2024 season. Brown could miss the entirety of next year.
Philadelphia Eagles Safety Sydney Brown: Playing Well During Rookie Season
The Philadelphia Eagles selected Sydney Brown with the 66th overall pick in last year’s draft. He starred for the Illinois Fighting Illini in college, earning first-team All-Big Ten honors. Brown started the season slowly but registered seven tackles in the team’s fourth game against the Washington Commanders. The five-foot-ten third-level defender registered his first interception of the season last Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals, returning an off-target Kyler Murray pass for a 99-yard touchdown.
Brown finishes the regular season with 45 tackles, three passes defended, one TFL, an interception, and a pick-six. Brown mainly played behind Reed Blankenship in the secondary. The Eagles could turn to the practice squad to replace Brown’s production. They have safeties Mekhi Garner and Josiah Scott in reserve. Garner is a rookie, while Scott has tallied 51 tackles in his four-year NFL career.
Philadelphia Eagles: Abysmal Finish to 2023 Season
The Eagles will finish the season on a two-game losing streak and have lost five of their last six contests. Wide receiver A.J. Brown (knee) left Sunday’s game with a knee injury, while the Eagles ruled out fellow wideout DeVonta Smith (ankle) before kickoff. Quarterback Jalen Hurts also hurt his finger in the loss before being pulled with the game and the NFC East title out of reach. Philadelphia will travel to Tampa Bay to take on the Buccaneers in the Wild Card Round next weekend. On Sunday, Tampa Bay beat the Carolina Panthers to win the NFC South.
