Former Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders’ slide to the fifth round was one of the biggest storylines of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Viewed by many analysts as a potential top-10 pick, Sanders’ shocking slide to the Cleveland Browns in the fifth round shined a light on how differently a prospect can be viewed by fans and the media from how the evaluators inside the league tasked with making the picks see his upside.

Had the Browns not selected Sanders at pick No. 144 overall, there might have been another team lurking to stop his slide.
Philadelphia Eagles Linked to Shedeur Sanders Interest During the 2025 NFL Draft

In the past, the Philadelphia Eagles have not shied away from taking a quarterback in the later rounds to develop both as an insurance policy on their starter but also a potential future trade chip. Turns out, Sanders might have been in the Eagles’ sights had he made it past Cleveland.
Eagles general manager Howie Roseman was a guest on the Rich Eisen Show following the NFL Draft, and didn’t quite deny Philadelphia’s interest in Sanders.
“I would say that there are a lot of players who get taken before you pick in the draft,” Roseman said. “A lot of good players. And, when you get to pick, you go after the board that you have.”
When pressed by Eisen, Roseman stopped well short of confirming Philadelphia had Sanders as the next quarterback on their board during the fifth round.
“I think everything you said is factual, I”m trying to think of where you’re trying to catch me,” Roseman joked. “I wouldn’t [confirm or deny] that with any player being on our draft board, that would open up to a lot more questions.”

The Eagles wound up taking a quarterback with their next pick, Syracuse’s Kyle McCord, who will likely compete for Philadelphia’s No. 2 role behind Super Bowl MVP Jalen Hurts as the latest off the assembly line at Roseman’s quarterback factory.
Whether the Eagles would have actually drafted Sanders, we will never know, but Philadelphia taking a quarterback with that selection creates some fun post-draft speculation, at the very least.
