There have been preparations for the Dallas Cowboys to completely bounce back in 2025.  A three-year span in which Dallas had won 12 regular season games came to an end in 2024.  However, the team may not yet be out of the woods after being derailed by injuries and poor play last year.  Prescott’s recovery remains a mystery, despite reports and footage of him working out with teammates.

In fact, Dallas is bringing in a quarterback as insurance.

This weekend, the Dallas Cowboys will hold a tryout for a notable quarterback:

Jerry Jones and Co. were handed multiple opportunities to improve the roster in the NFL Draft and took advantage, with one pick even getting the owner and GM to bust a move in the team’s war room.

None of their recruits were quarterbacks, yet that was no surprise, given that they traded for Joe Milton after fashioning an exit for Trey Lance.

The NFC East team addressed key areas of need with their draft selections and is set to have Dak Prescott return for next season following his quad injury last term. However, they are giving a quarterback a tryout soon.

According to ESPN’s Todd Archer, former Houston quarterback Donovan Smith will attend the team’s rookie minicamp this weekend.

“The Cowboys will have former Houston and Texas Tech quarterback Donovan Smith work their rookie minicamp this weekend on a tryout basis,” Archer tweeted, also noting that there will be open practices lasting an hour each on Friday and Saturday, which will serve as an introduction for the rookies.

Smith played his first three years in Texas before transferring to Houston in 2023. He appeared in nine games last season, throwing for 867 yards, four touchdowns, and eight interceptions, while completing 65 percent of his passing attempts.

He is also a formidable threat on the ground, which fits the QB model in Dallas, with Prescott having recorded the sixth-most rushing scores among signal-callers since he was drafted in 2016.

The Cowboys have done remarkable work outside of the draft before, signing former USFL MVP KaVontae Turpin, who has earned a reputation as one of the best returners in the NFL and has since become a two-time Pro Bowler and All-Pro.
