Fans of the Philadelphia Eagles know that Jason Kelce is one of the most important players in their offense. His incredible physical tools and ability as a center allow their quarterbacks to make plays that otherwise would be tough to execute.
However, rumors about his retirement have made waves around the NFL ever since his team burned out of the playoffs. The 36-year-old, who is mulling whether his body can take another season of professional football, just provided an update on his plans for his pro career.
Jason Kelce to announce Philadelphia Eagles future in coming weeks
The Philadelphia Eagles center talked to Shaquille O’Neal on The Big Podcast with Shaq during Super Bowl Week where the two talked about various topics.
The topic of his impending retirement was naturally brought up, and Kelce kept mum on the issue, not giving out any details to Shaq and the fans.
However, as reported by the New York Post’s Christian Arnold, he’s coming closer to a decision after witnessing his brother win another Super Bowl trophy:
“Still figuring it out,” Kelce told Shaquille O’Neal on “The Big Podcast with Shaq” Monday. “I think if I still want to play, I’m going to play. I think right now we’re not far enough away from the last game. It’s emotional, it’s a long season, the end of the season quite frankly, awful. So I’m just going to take some time, rest, recoup and then figure it out.
“I think I’ll have an answer in the next couple weeks.”
Kelce is a bonafide star of a lineman who introduced an impeccable combination of speed and power in the center position. Throughout his 13-year pro career, he’s been named to the Pro Bowl seven times and is an eight-time All-Pro center.
Philadelphia Eagles fans would love it if their star center would give the team one more season before walking off the game for good. Perhaps the team could convince him to play one more year if the changes they made to the team will help the Eagles return to their 2022 form.
