The Philadelphia Eagles made a power move this off-season by offering the fifth biggest running back contract in the NFL to Saquon Barkley after losing most of their running back room. Since being drafted second overall to the New York Giants in 2018, Barkley has been known by his peers as one of the best running backs in the NFL when on the field.
However, staying on the field is a priority that Barkley has struggled to find early in his career. Running behind a below-average Giants offensive front was partially the reason for his high production, which resulted in injury. Barkley will now have one of the best offensive lines in football breaking holes for him and will likely have an efficient first season in Philadelphia if he can stay in the lineup.
Philadelphia Eagles GM Howie Roseman Believes Saquon Barkley is “Hall of Fame caliber”
When asked about the signing of Barkley by Adam Schein on Mad Dog Sports Radio, Eagles General Manager Howie Roseman believes that playing in a better situation will maximize his talent and he could be a real difference-maker right away.
“This is a difference making player and we think a difference making person.” Roseman said. “Maybe we have a good situation here with us in Philly to kind of maximize him. I don’t think there’s anyone when he came out of the draft that didn’t think he wasn’t a Hall of Fame caliber talent and person. He’s still young and we’re really excited to have him.”
Despite the injury history surrounding Barkley, there is no denying the talent he possesses and the Eagles plan to take full advantage of the situation. Roseman is confident that the talent level will speak for itself come September.
How Will Barkley Effect the Eagles Offense Moving Forward?

This addition will beef up a run-heavy offensive attack that was already one of the best in that department last season. The loss of future Hall of Famer Jason Kelce to retirement does make the offensive line weaker, but they will still be one of the top fronts in 2024.
The expectation for Barkley is to have one of the best seasons of his career. He is playing behind the best offense he has seen at the NFL level along with the best coaching. Christian McCaffrey, who dealt with injuries as a Carolina Panther before being traded to the San Francisco 49ers a couple of seasons ago has missed a total of one game since the trade happened and rushed for a career-high in 2023. I expect a similar outcome for Barkley heading into next season as an Eagle.
