One of the great joys of the season is the Manning-cast on ESPN. The banter between the two brothers as well as the wide array of guests adds something fun to the game. Often, the Mannings also pull back the curtain and reveal what their time in the league was like. During last night’s playoff game, Peyton Manning had some shocking comments about halftime adjustments.

Peyton Manning On Halftime Adjustments
The age old quote that often comes from commentators is, “Let’s see what type of halftime adjustments the team made.” Manning says this is all a hoax.
“I don’t know if I ever made a halftime adjustment in my entire 18-year career. I think that’s the biggest myth in football- the halftime adjustments. You go in, you use the restroom, you eat a couple of oranges, and then the head coach says, ‘Alright, let’s go!'”
This is a great quote from Manning. It seems that most teams just rest and recharge and then head back out. While there may be some strategizing with the coaches, the players in Manning’s locker room seemed to keep to themselves.

Curious About What Others Would Say
I’d be curious if this was something that happened in all NFL locker rooms. It does make sense that there would be very little that goes on at halftime. If you think about it, halftime is not all that long. 15 minutes max is spent in the locker room before coming back out on the field to warm back up for the second half. Going to the bathroom and getting a snack are probably high priorities for many players. Adjustments are most likely made on the fly by positional coaches rather than something that forces a change by the entire team.
The mystic of halftime adjustments has been shattered. This is the type of comment that makes the Manning-cast so enjoyable to watch.
