The New England Patriots have a lot to be optimistic about for the future, even though they sit at a 3-8 record following a close loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Their main reason for optimism is rookie quarterback Drake Maye, who has been impressing just about everyone since he took up the starting role for the team.
Both Rams coach Sean McVay and many Patriot legends had tons of compliments for the 22-year-old star. These are guys who know football well and know quarterbacks, and they had wild praise for Drake. Everyone thinks that Maye is going to be a superstar in the NFL.
Sean McVay, Rob Gronkowski, And Julian Edelman Love Drake Maye
These quotes from New England about Maye are not being spoken about enough because of the team’s poor record. While all the talk of rookie quarterbacks has been with Bo Nix, Jayden Daniels, and Caleb Williams, what Drake has been doing has been nothing short of incredible. Drake has a much worse offensive line, and receiver weapons around him to go along with a rookie head coach, and he has been very impressive according to many football legends.

Both Patriots legends Julian Edelman and Rob Gronkowski were singing Maye; ‘s praises after their loss to the Rams. Gronk went on a long tangent about how impressive Maye has been and how much he loves him:
“I love everything about him,” Gronkowski said about Maye, as shared by Lauren Campbell of MassLive. “Just that aura around him. He’s a complete leader. He’s a complete quarterback out on the football field. He has that aura around him where the players like him, they like what he’s doing, they like how he prepares. To have that skill at 22 years old, you know you’re going to be the real deal and you know you’re in the right mindset to be the quarterback of the New England Patriots if you’re already doing that.”
Edelman added:
“He came in and he’s been productive,” Edelman said about Maye. “He’s improved each and every week. There’s a big difference between a quarterback calling a players-only meeting when he’s been playing like dog crap. This kid’s been fighting his butt off. He’s got a good attitude.”
While it makes sense for Patriot icons to get hyped about the rookie quarterback, head coach McVay echoed the same ideas as well. McVay is one of the most brilliant offensive minds the NFL has ever seen and he knows a lot about quarterbacks. Per ESPN’s Mike Reiss:
“You look at it, and you can really see his ability to create off-schedule,” McVay said. “I thought he did a great job of being able to make plays in the pocket today, extend drives. I thought he was patient, taking some underneath check-downs where guys were able to create. We had tighter coverages, and he was able to fit the ball into tight windows.
“He looks like a stud. I didn’t do too much work on him coming out. I do know a lot of people that studied him really hard that I truly respect their opinions loved what he was all about. You can see just the impact that he has on his teammates, the way people talk about him here. He looks like he’s going to be a special player for a long time, and he gave us fits today.”
#Rams HC Sean McVay was very complimentary of #Patriots rookie QB Drake Maye:

Drake Maye Reacts To High Praises
Maye continued to impress with his reactions to all the praise, and while many 22-year-olds would get a big head from all these compliments, May understands that he has not done anything yet and that he has his eyes set on getting much better:
“I think it’s more of a don’t get too high when you feel like you’re playing well, and don’t get too low when things aren’t going your way,” Maye said, as shared by Lauren Campbell of MassLive. “So it’s kind of a tough battle because I do feel like I’m making some plays and we’re moving the ball offensively.”
Maye still has an opportunity to take home Rookie of the Year, but he only was inserted into the starting role later in the year.
“I think we need to figure that part out,” Maye said about his growth as a player leading to wins. “But at the same time, I think we got those guys and in that room, a lot of different guys making plays, and I think we’re just a few plays away.”
Everything about Maye has been impressive, and the Patriots have found their quarterback for the future. They need to do everything they can to support this young star and will need to get him some weapons and protection for the next seasons. While everyone else is talking about the other rookie quarterbacks, Maye is going to be best of all them.
