Panthers Officially Finished with the Most Embarrassing Season Ever in 2023

Remember Patriots and Jets fans: If you are ever feeling bad, just remember that the Carolina Panthers are by far the worst franchise in the National Football League.  Clearly the season was a total train wreck to begin with but just as an exclamation point on that disaster, Carolina finished the season with a 9-0 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.  They didn’t lose on a last second field goal.  They didn’t lose in nail biting fashion.  Carolina got embarrassed by the worst division winner in the NFL.

Panthers Endure Arguably the Most Embarrassing NFL Season Ever

So where to even begin here.  Yes, Carolina did lose the final game of the season with a shutout against a mediocre division rival.  That is just the icing on what has been a disastrous cake in 2023.  They also had fired their Head Coach Frank Reich halfway through the season after he made it apparent that he had no idea how to manage this team.  In his defense, this team probably has another four to five years before they become competitive.  That is a conservative projection too.

Then you have the fact that their owner bitterly threw beer on fans last week after his team suffered another shutout and blowout loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.  You read that correctly.  The Panthers were the first team to be shutout two games in a row since the 2008 Cleveland Browns.  You also need to remember that the late 2000s Browns were as bad as they come.  Then, on top of an embarrassing loss, the owner actually threw beer on opposing fans.  Sure he apologized afterwards but wow that is just a horrible look.

Even after all that, the big thing that Carolina did that keeps me up at night is they foolishly traded away the first overall pick in the 2024 draft.  They have no prospects to get any solid young players this season and they have no real means of improving their aging receiving corps to make 2023 first overall pick Bryce Young‘s life easier.  They have no means of improving a mediocre defense with anything but a middling cast available via free agency.

I know that I throw the word “dumpster fire” around a little too often but if there were ever a moment where it fits, it would have to be the 2023 Carolina Panthers roster.  This team completely laid an egg this season all the way from the front office to the coaching staff to the roster, this team has virtually no means of improving and was clearly the worst team around.

I would like to take this moment to apologize to Carolina fans for the product they had to suffer through this season and the knowledge that they will likely suffer through another two seasons exactly like it in 2024 and 2025.
