New Ole Miss Rebels defensive end Princely Umanmielen took a shot at the coaching staff of his former team, the Florida Gators.
Umanmielen was one of the most sought-after transfer players in the portal. He played for the Gators for four years and has shown noticeable improvement in every season. According to On3, Umanmielen was a four-star transfer portal acquisition, which was the same rating he held coming out of high school.
New Ole Miss Rebels defensive end Princely Umanmielen had high praise for his new coaching staff but took a dig at his former coaching staff
While addressing the media amid spring practice sessions, Princely Umanmielen took a shot at the lack of development within the Florida Gators’ system. He said he felt as if he was being developed more under his new coaching staff.
There’s a lot here, but what I heard was

When Umanmielen began his career with the Gators, he was coached by Dan Mullen. Mullen was fired just before the end of the 2021 season, and Umanmielen has spent the last two seasons under head coach Billy Napier.
The only time Umanmielen was on a team that won more than six games was his freshman year, a year in which he did not contribute a great deal. He only had three total tackles on the season.
Under head coach Lane Kiffin, who has been with the team since Umanmielen started his college career in 2020, the Ole Miss Rebels have won 10 or more games twice. The only year in which they didn’t win at least eight games was Kiffin’s first year with the team.
Umanmielen was among several notable Florida departures this offseason. Running back Trevor Etienne, guard Richie Leonard IV and linebackers Scooby Williams and Jaydon Hill all entered the transfer portal. Linebacker recruit Myles Graham called all the departures “Gator bait” in an article from The Athletic.
“If you leave, you weren’t really a Gator at heart,” Graham said. “If you’re not a Gator, you’re Gator bait.”
Former Florida Gators defensive end Princely Umanmielen will provide a massive boost to the Ole Miss Rebels defense
Umanmielen minimally contributed to the Gators under former head coach Dan Mullen, but he became a key contributor under current head coach Billy Napier. In his first two seasons, Umanmielen accounted for 20 total tackles and 3.5 sacks. In his last two seasons, he has accounted for 78 total tackles and 11.5 sacks with two forced fumbles.
Umanmielen went from 4.5 sacks in 2022 to seven sacks in 2023. His quick first step at 6-foot-4 and 250 pounds makes him a potential first-round pick, according to NFL Draft Buzz.

If his elite frame and athleticism are better developed under Ole Miss and head coach Lane Kiffin, he could prove to be instrumental to a deep postseason run for the Rebels on his way to being a highly sought-after NFL prospect.
