In the era of extra eligibility and NIL deals, Oklahoma State football will return its starting quarterback in 2024. Per Chris Vannini of The Athletic, Cowboys gunslinger Alan Bowman will rejoin the team next fall for his seventh college season.

Bowman joined college football in the same recruiting class as NFL signal-callers Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields. However, injuries and the COVID-19-shortened season have allowed Bowman to play again for the Oklahoma State football program in 2024.
Oklahoma State Football QB Alan Bowman: Former Texas Tech Gunslinger
Bowman, a three-star recruit per 247Sports, joined the Texas Tech Red Raiders in 2018. He played under head coach Kliff Kingsbury, tossing a career-high 17 touchdowns against seven picks. He completed 69% of his passes. His best performance came against the Houston Cougars in mid-September, throwing for 605 yards and five scores with no picks. However, despite going 5-7, Kingsbury darted for the NFL, taking the Arizona Cardinals head coaching job. Bowman returned for his sophomore season under new bench boss Matt Wells, but a shoulder injury early in the year derailed a hot start. He finished with 1,020 passing yards and six touchdowns.
Bowman struggled with consistency in 2020, throwing for 1,602 yards and ten touchdowns against seven picks despite playing in eight games. The Red Raiders went as far as benching Bowman in favor of Utah State transfer Henry Colombi against top-ranked Iowa State. He also dealt with injuries as a junior.
Bowman: Two Years with Michigan Wolverines Before Landing in Stillwater
Bowman left Texas Tech for his true senior season, landing in Ann Arbor with the Michigan Wolverines. However, Cade McNamara beat him out for the starting job. Bowman again failed to land the starting gig in 2022, with McNamara and him stepping aside for former five-star prospect J.J. McCarthy.
The former Texas Tech gunslingers again entered the transfer portal, returning to the Big-12 and playing for the Oklahoma State football program. Bowman regained his starting role this season, appearing in all 14 of the team’s games. He completed 60.7% of his passes for a career-best 3,460 yards and 15 touchdowns. He threw 402 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the Cowboys’ Texas Bowl win over the Texas A&M Aggies.
