Kliff Kingsbury’s replacement has been named
Kliff Kingsbury’s replacement has been named Tuesday, just after the Super Bowl. The Arizona Cardinals waited to hire their coach until after Philadelphia Eagles played the Kansas City Chiefs in the final game of the NFL season. That’s because they poached an Eagles coordinator.
Kingsbury headed to Thailand after being fired by the Cardinals following a disappointing season. He was able to help the Cardinal’s offense succeed with quarterback Kyler Murray for most of his time as head coach. But the team needed help as a whole. Now the Cardinals are going with a defensive-minded coach.

According to a statement by the Cardinals, Jonathan Gannon will be the next head coach in Arizona.

Gannon’s history as a defensive coordinator
Gannon was the defensive coordinator for the Eagles during the 2021-22 seasons. The Eagles were considered by many to have one of the best defenses in the league this season. But they also had some terrible games with an elite defensive roster.

The Eagles had five games where they surrendered over 30 points during the 2022 season. That included teams struggling on offense, like the Washington Commanders and Green Bay Packers.
After holding their first two postseason teams to seven points, the Eagles gave up 31 defensive points to Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. Gannon’s defense will be forever remembered for allowing the Chiefs to score on every possession in the second half as they blew the lead and the Super Bowl.
We’ll see if Kliff Kingsbury’s replacement can turn the franchise around. He’ll have Murray, who’s locked down with an expensive contract. Gannon will have to get the best out of his defense with a smaller salary cap for that side of the ball.
