The Oklahoma football program will head to the SEC after a double-digit winning season next fall. Oklahoma owns a 110-49-8 against current SEC members and has the fourth most College Football Playoff appearances. However, the expectation is that the Sooners will struggle in their first year in the SEC, recently emphasized by their shockingly low placement in Friday’s release of the conference preseason media poll. Nevertheless, Oklahoma will attempt to repeat last season’s success, and this year’s signal-caller, Jackson Arnold, is ready for the challenge ahead.
Arnold spoke to 104.5 ESPN and Matt Moscona this week, talking about the expectations for Oklahoma football in the SEC next year. Among the topics discussed was Oklahoma’s brutal road schedule, featuring Auburn, Ole Miss, Missouri, and LSU. However, for Arnold, the trip to Death Valley in Louisiana has him the most excited for the 2024 campaign.

During an interview with Matt Moscona and ESPN during SEC Media Days, Oklahoma football quarterback Jackson Arnold did not hesitate to share which road game he is most excited about next season.
“The Thanksgiving LSU-Oklahoma thing could be pretty cool if it materializes. What do you think about playing in Baton Rouge that weekend?” said Moscona when pressing Arnold about his program’s first year in the SEC.

Arnold replied, “Yeah, everyone I talked to today they ask me the question, ‘Which away game are you looking forward to the most?’ And my answer is Death Valley, for sure. I mean, Death Valley at night, you’ve heard about it. Never Played there, I’ve never been there at night, so I’m super pumped for that game.” He continued, “But I mean, just like for atmosphere, of course. That’s going to be sick, you know? If we score, it might go quiet. You just love that. It’s going to be awesome.”
Oklahoma has never played LSU in Death Valley but has faced them thrice in its program’s history. Oklahoma last played LSU in 2019, losing 63-28 to a Joe Burrow-led Tigers squad. Burrow threw for seven touchdowns in the win, while Sooners quarterback Jalen Hurts struggled, throwing no touchdowns and one pick. They also faced off in the 2004 Sugar Bowl, with LSU besting the former Big 12 squad, 21-14. However, OU beat LSU in the only other meeting, 35-0 circa 1950.
Arnold: Former Five Star Recruit

The fourth-ranked quarterback in the class of 2023 per 247Sports, five-star recruit Jackson Arnold played a backup role for the Oklahoma football program last season. Arnold sat behind fellow passer Dillon Gabriel, going 18-of-24 for 202 yards and two touchdowns in the regular season. However, Gabriel left for the transfer portal before the Alamo Bowl against the Arizona Wildcats. Arnold went 26-of-45 for 361 yards, two touchdowns, and three picks in a loss. He also rushed 11 times for 38 yards.
Arnold will likely lean on the receiver quartet of Andrel Anthony, Nic Anderson, Deion Burks, and Jalil Farooq. Anderson headlines the group, recording 38 receptions, 798 yards, and a team-high ten touchdowns during his freshman season last year. Meanwhile, Burks had 629 yards and seven touchdowns with the Purdue Boilermakers the previous fall.
