Last season, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy led the NFL in passer rating, QBR, yards per attempt, touchdowns percentage, and yards per completion. The year prior, Purdy threw for 13 touchdowns against four picks in nine games, five starts, after injuries to fellow passers Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance. Meanwhile, Purdy is 4-1 in the postseason in games he finishes, making him one of the most accomplished quarterbacks in the past two seasons.
Purdy is undoubtedly an NFL star, and outside Kansas City Chiefs elite signal caller Patrick Mahomes, he is one of the most accomplished in recent memory. However, some fans and media members still downplay Purdy’s accomplishments, unwilling to consider him a top-ten passer in the NFL. Craig Carton of FS1 has had enough of the blatant disrespect, calling out NFL devotees who undervalue the San Francisco passer.
Craig Carton: Bashes NFL fans and Media That Disrespect San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy, alongside Dallas Cowboys passer Dak Prescott, are some of the most disrespected signal-callers in the NFL. Prescott has struggled in the postseason for the past half-decade, leading to overwhelming scrutiny. However, Purdy has only starred in the regular season and playoffs, posting monster numbers in his two-year NFL career. After continuous disrespect towards Purdy, FS1’s Craig Carton, on “The Carton Show,” called out fans and media for not giving the Pro Bowler his due respect.
Craig Carton on Brock Purdy:
“If you are putting together a list of the 10 best quarterbacks in football today, and Brock Purdy is not on that list, you’ve exposed yourself as knowing nothing about football.”

“If you are putting together a list of the ten best quarterbacks in football today, and Brock Purdy is not on that list, you’ve exposed yourself as knowing nothing about football,” said Carton. ESPN recently released its top ten quarterbacks heading into next fall, with Purdy earning honorable mention consideration.
Per ESPN, an NFC executive said, “It’s hard to call him top 10 based on the guys ahead of him, but it’s hard to keep him out of the top 10, too.” A separate NFC executive stated, “He’s very good at navigating the pocket, buying time, using his legs — you’re not going to win because of him in most cases.”
Purdy: Entering Third NFL Season
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy will enter his third NFL season next fall, his second as a starter. Purdy, the final pick of the 2022 NFL draft, opened his rookie year as the third-string quarterback, but after injuries to Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance, he received his first start in Week 14 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Purdy shined, going 16-of-21 for 185 yards and two scores. Purdy finished the season throwing for 1,374 yards, 13 touchdowns, and four picks while leading San Francisco to a 5-0 record.
The 49ers opted to start Purdy in 2023, with the Iowa State product throwing for 4,280 yards, 31 touchdowns, and 11 picks. He completed 69% of his passes while leading the league in passer rating. Purdy’s success leaked into the playoffs, throwing three touchdowns against one interception. San Francisco eventually lost in the Super Bowl, with Purdy going 23-of38 for 255 yards and a touchdown.
