Oklahoma football did not have the season they envisioned when joining the SEC this fall. The Oklahoma Sooners went 6-6, fired offensive coordinator Seth Littrell, and went 2-6 in conference play. Offensively, Oklahoma struggled mightly, switching between quarterbacks Jackson Arnold and Michael Hawkins to jump-start the passing attack. However, Arnold helped stabilize the offense towards the tail end of the season despite mostly playing without the team’s top five wide receivers.
Arnold played a significant role in the team’s shocking 24-3 win at home against the Alabama Crimson Tide in late November. Arnold continued playing for Oklahoma football during a lost season, withholding his redshirt campaign. On Wednesday, he entered the transfer portal, with Oklahoma Sooners fans tipping their caps to the quarterback, albeit performing at an underwhelming level during a down year for the program.
Oklahoma Football Fans Support Jackson Arnold’s Transfer
According to On3:
BREAKING: Oklahoma QB Jackson Arnold plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal, per ESPN.
Oklahoma football quarterback Jackson Arnold will part ways with the program and enter the transfer portal on Wednesday. Arnold threw for 1,421 yards, 15 touchdowns, and five interceptions in ten games this season. He also rushed for 444 yards and three touchdowns. As the former five-star recruit in the class of 2023, Arnold’s most impactful outing came in a 24-3 upset win over the top-ranked win over Alabama. He went 9-of-11 for 68 yards while rushing 25 times for 131 yards.
Arnold’s departure comes shortly after the firing of offensive coordinator Seth Littrell. The duo lasted just one season after replacing the quarterback/OC duo of Dillon Gabriel and Jeff Lebby. Following Arnold’s transfer portal entry, Oklahoma football fans said their goodbyes to their signal-caller:
Jackson Arnold remained with Oklahoma through the OC change and burned his redshirt to help the team win when he didn’t have to
Give him a lot credit for sticking it out – now he’ll get a chance to flourish somewhere new while OU finds someone new to go with Ben Arbuckle

I wish nothing but the best for this young man. He handled the adversity with class. Respect 🤝

I hope a new, fresh start is exactly what Jackson Arnold needs. Tremendous amount of talent and unquestionably tough as hell as evidenced by stepping back in when called upon this season. Goodluck to 11.

Jackson Arnold played his butt off! I wish him well. Now it’s time to get John Mateer!! He might even be a better runner than Arnold! All I know is he is a dude. Baker Mayfield 2.0! Get ready Sooners! pic.twitter.com/QCT2rMWl7E

#Sooners QB Jackson Arnold (@_JacksonArnold_) to the portal.
While expected, still stings.
Young man left it all on the field for his coaches, teammates, and #OU fans. pic.twitter.com/58UZu1vLA5

Jackson Arnold will shake back. I fully believe that.
Great human being and a very talented — and tough — football player. I don’t think what happened this year is indicative of his true capabilities.

I got mad respect for JA,…given what he had with little QB coaching experience,…he helped get us to be bowl eligible, so I'm grateful he gave us what he could,….we've dealt him a bad hand,..he played his cards the best way he could,…someone is getting a good one

I think for all parties involved, this was the best thing. Jackson Arnold needs a fresh start. And it should surprise no one if he goes on to have a great career.
And for OU, with a new OC, they have to go in a different direction. This season was a disaster at QB.

Will always root for Jackson Arnold. He’s one tough kid who was dealt a terrible hand this year. Wherever you Jackson, I’m a fan

Rooting for you wherever you go, Jackson Arnold
