Both Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes have had a very down year by their own standards. They are both not performing even close to their regular averages, and the Kansas City Chiefs offense as a whole has not been performing even close to their usual standards. They are still winning games at their usual pace, but none of their 11 wins have been in convincing fashion.
Both Kelce and Mahomes are on pace for the worst seasons of their careers and that is probably not going to change with how many games are left in the season. Kelce is understandably upset by their performance and he even went as far as to say that he and his legendary quarterback are not even on the same page. It’s shocking that after all this time of playing together, they would not be on the same page.
Travis Kelce Is Not on The Same Page as His Quarterback
In their newest episode of the New Heights podcast, Jason and Travis had a lot to talk about, specifically about Taylor Swift and Patrick. Kelce admitted in the podcast that he and his quarterback have just not been on the same page this season and he spoke about how frustrating it has been. It is strange to think that after years of playing together they wouldn’t be on the same page:
“I’m just not on the same page as Pat,” he said. “It can get frustrating. It can get (expletive) frustrating. That’s for damn sure.”
Specifically, he feels that they have not been on the same page in the Redzone, where Travis usually is a monster.
“Where I take a lot of pride is once we get in that red zone, man,” he said. “Once we get in that red zone, man, I get a little hungrier and right now, for whatever reason this year, I just can’t find my way in the end zone.”

Kelce, so far, has 75 catches for just 637 yards and only two touchdowns this year. All of those stats are on pace for Kelce’s worst year of his career dating back to before Mahomes was his quarterback.
Patrick Mahomes is having a very down year as well as he has thrown for 2,979 yards and 19 touchdowns with 11 interceptions. He is on pace for the worst season of his career in touchdowns and yards per game, and he getting very close to a career-high in interceptions of any season.
Kelce specifically admitted that the teams that have beaten them or gotten close to beating them have done an excellent job in figuring out that quarterback tight end connection and that they will need to do more if they want to win their third straight Super Bowl.
“They had a good understanding of what we were trying to do and how to stop us and how to slow us down,” he said. “They eliminated a lot of the big-time plays that we had. On top of that, keep us out of the end zone. That was the biggest thing for me.”
If these issues go into the post-season, this Chiefs team may be in trouble in any or every playoff game they play. If Kelce and Mahomes can get back on the same page, it should be overall smooth sailing into the Super Bowl.
