The Ohio State Buckeyes have dominated the transfer portal last week. After an inauspicious start to the offseason, Ryan Day and his staff have been on a tear. They have landed top-tier talent on both sides of the ball. Amidst their success, the program’s national championship odds have soared.
Ohio State National Championship Odds Soar
On January 9th, the day of this year’s national championship, the Buckeyes were +800 on Draft Kings to win the title next year. After the moves they have made in the past couple of weeks, they now sit at +500, which is second only to Georgia at +330. It has been a combination of a lot of things. Running back Quinshon Judkins committed to the team. Six defensive starters announced they were coming back for another season. Former Alabama safety Caleb Downs committed to the program as well. The expectations are growing for this team.
Pressure To Win
There is pressure on Ryan Day and his staff to win now. They have lost the Michigan three straight years which has kept them out of the Big Ten championship. Day needs to show he can beat the conference’s elite and not just the bottom feeders of the Big Ten. Their toughest game on the schedule before Michigan is a road game against the Oregon Ducks early in the season. If they can win that matchup, it will be a quality win on the resume.
Ohio State is hoping the national championship odds continue to get better. They have the talent but need that to translate into wins.
