Flores is the fourth Notre Dame wide receiver to declare his intent to transfer. He flashed an excellent skillset last season and will become one of the most sought-after transfer receivers.
WR Rico Flores: Shines in Inaugural Season with Notre Dame Football
Rico Flores Jr. came to South Bend, Indiana, this season as a four-star prospect from Folsom High School in California. Despite donning the blue and gold for just his season, he finished third on the team with 27 receptions and 392 receiving yards. He also scored a touchdown. Flores was the only member of the Fighting Irish receiving core to log a 100-yard game in 2023, posting an eight-catch, 102-yard performance in a win over Wake Forest late in the season. His lone touchdown came in a 17-14 heartbreaking loss against the Ohio State Buckeyes. However, Flores expects to take his talents elsewhere after a solid freshman campaign.

Notre Dame Football: Players Entering Transfer Portal at Alarming Rate
Flores is the fourth Notre Dame wideout to enter this transfer portal since the start of the week, joining Tobias Merriweather, Braylon James, and Chris Tyree. Merriweather caught 14 passes for 284 yards and two touchdowns in 2023. James, a freshman like Flores, playing sparingly, catching just one pass in the regular season. Meanwhile, Tyree led the team with 484 receiving yards. He leaves Notre Dame with 2,106 scrimmage yards and 17 touchdowns in four seasons. Per the South Bend Tribune, Tyree is the first Notre Dame player to score via punt return, kick, return, rush attempt, and reception in a career since Julius Jones.
The mass exodus of receivers at Notre Dame stemmed from the firing of receiver coach Chansi Stucky. He got let go early this week by head coach Marcus Freeman. The Irish received just one 100-yard performance from a receiver this season. Notre Dame has also lost star defensive end Nana Osafo-Mensah and longtime center Zeke Correll to the transfer portal.
