The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are coming off a good season but one that they were hoping for more. They lost a couple of heartbreaking games and now have to deal with the transfer portal. On the first day of a flurry of announcements, Notre Dame lost a couple of players to the portal.
Notre Dame wide receiver Chris Tyree's name is in the transfer portal now as a graduate. Tyree announced his intent to transfer earlier. Played both WR and RB for the Irish.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish Lose Two Players To Transfer Portal
It is one player from each side of the ball. Defensive end Nana Osafo-Mensah announced he is looking for a new home. He played in 12 games this season and had three sacks for the team. On the other side of the ball, wide receiver Chris Tyree is in the portal as well. Tyree is a versatile playmaker who lined up at multiple positions for the Fighting Irish. In 2023, he had 484 receiving yards and three touchdowns. No team is immune and now Notre Dame will have to look to replace the talent.
New College Football Landscape
While it stinks to lose players, this is the nature of college football right now. While Notre Dame and many other big programs are losing players, they will likely gain players as well. Like it or not, this is what college football looks like currently. The flurry of players entering the transfer portal has been met with some criticism. The portal used to be more difficult to navigate but now it can become an easy way for a player to switch teams for more money or playing time. With the volume in the portal, I wouldn’t be surprised if the NCAA steps in sometime soon.
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish will look to reload and make another College Football Playoff run in 2024. They will need to fill some holes and win some big matchups to do so.
