The Minnesota Vikings had concerning injury updates Monday, including the status of their quarterback. The Vikings’ most troubling injury is to wide receiver Justin Jefferson. The Vikings are still evaluating his hamstring after he sustained the injury in their Week 5 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Head coach Kevin O’Connell said the team would need to protect Jefferson from himself. And he might have to sit out against the Chicago Bears in Week 6. The Vikings could be without another essential part of the offense: their backup quarterback.
The Minnesota Vikings hint at placing QB on IR
According to Kevin Seifert with ESPN, the Vikings hinted that they are deciding if they will place Nick Mullens on injured reserve this week. They could make a roster move at quarterback shortly.
Kevin O'Connell also said the Vikings are considering options for backup QB Nick Mullens, who was inactive Sunday because of back stiffness, and mentioned the possibility of a roster move later this week. Translated: They're trying to decide whether to put him on IR.

Mullens’ injury could significantly impact how the Vikings decide to play their hand before the trade deadline. The 1-4 Vikings could be sellers at the deadline. And many Vikings fans want Cousins traded.
Seifert thinks that the possibility of losing Mullens could make the Vikings less inclined to trade Kirk Cousins.
So the “trade Cousins” crowd would have to take into account that his backup isn’t available at the moment and might not be for a while. Rookie Jaren Hall is only other QB on 53-man roster. Tanner Morgan is on the practice squad. https://t.co/oVTNqdG2OH

Jaren Hall and Tanner Morgan aren’t ready to play. It’s also doubtful Jefferson would be happy if they were throwing his way after he returns from his injury. It’ll be interesting to see what roster move the Vikings go with if they have to put Mullens on injured reserve.
