Carolina Panthers tight end Hayden Hurst suffered a concussion in week 10 against the Chicago Bears and has not played since. He has been slowly coming back to action as he was limited in practice this week, however, his father, Jerry Hurst, revealed that the tight end has been diagnosed with a more serious issue that can set him back even more.
Sad news: #Panthers TE Hayden Hurst has been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Amnesia by an independent neurologist due to a hit he took in a game earlier this season, and it’s unknown when he will be able to play again.

Hayden Hurst Diagnosis
Hurst’s father revealed that the tight end had been diagnosed with post-traumatic amnesia by a neurologist following the hit he took that caused the concussion. Post-traumatic amnesia is defined as a state of confusion that occurs immediately following a traumatic brain injury in which the injured person is disoriented and unable to remember events that occur after the injury.
The timeline of the brain injury is dependent on the severity of the brain injury, so we will not know exactly when Hurst will be able to see the field again. Hurst has gone for 184 receiving yards and a touchdown this season for Carolina after he signed a three-year deal this offseason after leaving the Cincinnati Bengals.
NFL Fans React To Hayden Hurst News
Hurst was selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the 2018 NFL draft and spent two seasons with the team. After leaving Baltimore, he was dealt to the Atlanta Falcons, where he had his best career season in 2020 with 571 receiving yards and six touchdowns. He has been in the postseason three times in his career and played in the AFC Championship game with the Bengals.
The NFL world is sending their thoughts and prayers to the tight end and his family while he recovers from this issue. Many are saying that the league needs to implement more safety precautions so that something like this does not happen again.

Anybody that saw the hit isn't surprised, poor dude. The @NFL failed him by letting him play the rest of the game. I was shocked he got back on the field
