There is a bubbling story in the NFL about how the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals’ future is in real question now following the result of a recent local vote in Jackson County. There is real movement being made to move the Chiefs out of Kansas City.
Voters Rejecting Stadium Tax May Make The Chiefs Relocate
The voters of Jackson County chose to reject the stadium tax which would have opened the door for a huge renovation to be made to the Chiefs’ Arrowhead Stadium. It also would have created a path for the Royals to have their own separate stadium. Both teams are playing in the Truman Sports Complex in Kansas City.
The current lease will last till 2031 which is still some decent time, but in a shocking new report, the wife of the Royals’ owner John Sherman says that both teams will likely move out after the lease expires.
Marny Sherman had Facebook post after the election results were revealed that wrote:
“Unfortunately neither team will work with Jackson County again”
“The lack of leadership has lost the city two treasured assets… We will be lucky if both teams wind up in Kansas.”
Marny Sherman did not hold back on the voters of Jackson County and is alluding to both teams looking to move on in the near future.
Wife Of Royals’ Owner Says Teams Are Likely To Move Out
While the Chiefs were looking to make major renovations to their stadium, the Royals are in a bit of different situation when it came to this vote. They have an aging ballpark with a team that is in a full rebuild. Owner John Sherman is still hopeful to stay in Kansas City however, as he addressed the media following the vote.
“We respect the voters of Jackson County and the results of the election today,” Sherman said after the results were revealed.
“We will take some time to reflect on and process the outcome and find a path forward that works for the Royals and our fans.”
Only time will tell if either of these teams will cross state lines, but what is sure is that there is fire to this story. There is already real movement being made to move the Chiefs.

FYI, the Royals have Kaufman Stadium, the Chiefs have Arrowhead. They are both at the Truman Sports Complex and were each built at the same time. If you call Kaufman aging, then Arrowhead must be aging, too. Your article shows that you bought into the narrative of Royals ownership for their excuse to move. A stadium tax during a time of high inflation was defeated by a wide margin.
Please stay nearby. We love seeing them both okay when we can. Can you move them to Kansas City, KS?
