There have been rare NFL stars that have come from college basketball, and as March Madness has been in full swing, there are a few NFL insiders that are reporting that this years tournament may produce the next football star from college basketball. NC State is going to compete in the final four, and their star player DJ Burns Jr. looks more like an NFL star than a basketball player. Now reports have come out that numerous teams agree with that.
NFL Teams Have Real Interest In DJ Burns Jr.
Per NFL insider Peter Schrager there are at least several teams that would be interested in having Burns for a workout after his college basketball career is over. Peter tweeted out on Monday saying:
“Spoke to and texted multiple scouts/GMs about NC State big man DJ Burns as an NFL OT prospect over the last 24 hours. He is listed at 6’9, but probably is 6’7. A+ footwork. Would get big turnout & potentially $ if he participated in a Pro Day/workout the week after the Final 4.”
Schrager was not the only insider to report this as well, as Jim Nagy also backed Schrager and shared a similar sentiment over the weekend that NFL teams have real interest in the basketball star.
NFL Stars To Come Out Of Basketball
There have been a few incredible players in NFL history to come from college basketball as opposed to football, and while it is rare, it is definitely possible to make the switch. Burns does not seem like a candidate to make the NBA, sow why not? Many in the media have speculated that Burns has the ability to play football.
Burns played football in high school and middle school but that his main goal is to reach the NBA. Speaking with Rich Eisen, Burns said he was a defensive lineman and tight end in his football days. He definitely has the build for the NFL at 6 foot-9, 275 pounds. There is a chance that we could see him be a lineman in the league.
