The NFL world was treated to an incredible three hour roast of GOAT Tom Brady this week. Both former head coach Bill Belichick and owner of the New England Patriots Robert Kraft, were all smiles during the roast, and they even took a shot together at one point. However, former NFL players revealed that there was massive tension between the two legends.
Former NFL Stars Give Inside Scoop On Netflix Roast
Kevin Hart, the host of the viral roast, was able to get the Patriots owner and former coach to come together and take a shot before the end of the program. Despite that beautiful moment of kumbaya between the legends that made the greatest dynasty happen, both former Patriots Julian Edelman and Drew Bledsoe revealed what was going on behind the scenes.
They both recalled that the atmosphere behind the scenes was incredibly uncomfortable, and the tension between BeIIcihick and Kraft was palpable.
On Edelman’s podcast Games with Names, he shared that Belichick was “having fun” and sharing tons of stories of former players. But when Kraft appeared there was massive tension that both former Patriot players felt:
“Belichick’s kind of holding court,” Bledsoe recalled. “As he’s in the middle of the story, Kraft walks in, and so you guys all go over to say hi to Kraft.”
“The tension in that room, though, could cut f—ing glass,” Edelman said.
There Is Still Beef Even After The Shot Together
Edelman shared that he tried to give his coach a heads up when Kraft arrived, but apparently Belichick did not catch that. The whole situation made Edelman feel “so awkward.”
“[Kraft] came in, and I was like, ‘Oh s—, there’s gonna be some fireworks,'” Edelman said. “I just walked away. I didn’t want to get in there.”
Bledsoe revealed that none of them, including Belichick, knew that Kraft would be attending until just the day before the roast. Bledsoe believes that this was intentional so that Kraft would not have to be the subject to many of the jokes on roast night.
Bledsoe, who does not have the fondest memories of playing for the Patriots, said the tension was “very real.” the former quarterback noted that Belichick and Kraft spoke privately for “10 minutes, at least.”
During his set, Kraft joked that there are always some people you’re “desperately trying to avoid” at any reunion. He later called Belichick “the greatest coach in the history of the game” when they toasted together on stage.
While there may have been some forgiveness and coming together between all the legends at the roast, there is still some heavy tension between all these guys. It was beautiful to see all of these legends come back together and celebrate.
