As the San Francisco 49ers are ready for the 2024 NFL season to get underway, their former controversial quarterback Colin Kaepernick has been making headlines this week.

While he was just making headlines for his new AI startup, now he is newsworthy for some disturbing reasons, specifically for making some alarming and  disturbing claims about his adoptive parents.

As discussed on Gridiron already, Kaepernick is making major move into the AI world with his new startup with Seven Seven Six, LUMI Story AI:

The former quarterback is creating an AI startup that is backed by Seven Seven Six according to The Wall Street Journal‘s Andrew Beaton. Seven Seven Six is a venture capital firm that is run by the Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, and the plan is for their new AI to help creators with tools that are beyond their reach. Lumi Story AI is now in business:

“It allows us to help fill in the skill gaps of creators,” Kaepernick said. “We are now building in that direction to try to open that up and democratize storytelling.”

Per the Wall Street Journal, Kaepernick has been pursuing AI for quite some time now, after he faced numerous adversities in his main goal of creating media companies. In the article, there is an example of a graphic novelist using the AI to illustrate their writing and how the platform will work to help creators.

The beta version of Lumi was launched on Wednesday and it is centered around Comics style work, but the plans are to expand the told that can be used and even end up allowing for users to create and sell products on it.

While fans were receiving his new business venture well, they have been alarmed and frankly worried by the allegations that the former quarterback made about his adoptive parents who have been his guardians for almost all his life.

The former quarterback became a controversial icon when he kneeled down during the national anthem in protest of police brutality against Black Americans. That is all ancient history, and now he recently made remarks about his adoptive parents that has fans worried.

The former star has quite the interesting background as was adopted by two white parents when he was just six weeks old! While they have had a loving relationship for almost all of his life, there have apparently been some major disconnects, and that his parents did not understand what he was going through.

Back in 2023, he revealed that his adoptive mother said some racist remarks to him about his appearance:

“Your hair is not professional, you look like a little thug,” she allegedly said.

“I know my parents loved me, but there were still very problematic things that I went through,” he added.

“I think it was important to show that, no, this can happen in your home, and how you move forward collectively while addressing the racism that is being perpetuated.”

Family issues is something that everyone in the world knows and understands, and it is easy to imagine their being some disconnects for an adoptive son of a different race. That can of course bring certain complexities, and it’s about working through these things in life to have more connection and more love around us.

It will be very interesting to see how this business venture goes!
