Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick is well-financed for his latest venture. The former NFL quarterback has been busy in his post-football life running non-profits, working as a model, and being an entrepreneur.
Colin Kaepernick wants to democratize media
As previously discussed on GH, Kaepernick recently started an AI business, Lumi Story AI, to help content creators navigate the expanding world of artificial intelligence. He wants to help the masses get past traditional gatekeeping methods:
The former quarterback is creating an AI startup that is backed by Seven Seven Six according to The Wall Street Journal‘s Andrew Beaton. Seven Seven Six is a venture capital firm that is run by the Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, and the plan is for their new AI to help creators with tools that are beyond their reach. Lumi Story AI is now in business:
“It allows us to help fill in the skill gaps of creators,” Kaepernick said. “We are now building in that direction to try to open that up and democratize storytelling.”
Per the Wall Street Journal, Kaepernick has been pursuing AI for quite some time now, after he faced numerous adversities in his main goal of creating media companies.
Former San Francisco 49ers QB raised $4 million
Kaepernick’s revolution is well financed. According to Andrew R. Chow of Time, Kaepernick has raised $4 million for the new company:
The company has raised $4 million in funding led by Alexis Ohanian’s Seven Seven Six, and its product went live today, July 24.
In an interview with TIME, Kaepernick says this project can be viewed as an extension of his activism. “The majority of the world’s stories never come to life. Most people don’t have access or inroads to publishers or platforms—or they may have a gap in their skillset that’s a barrier for them to be able to create,” he says. “We’re going to see a whole new world of stories and perspectives.”
The service will be provided via a monthly consumer subscription. Those interested in the product can sign up for the beta version.
