NFL fans quickly pointed out a minor historical mistake that the new starting quarterback for the New England Patriots made overseas in England. Drake Maye was answering questions in his media session ahead of the NFL’s international game, and he made a bit of an error in one of his responses that has since gone viral. Fans have been roasting the young quarterback for his funny comments.
Drake Maye Had Comedic Response To Reporter Question
The Patriots are set to face another 1-5 team over in London the Jacksonville Jaguars, and this should be a bit of an easier match for Maye than the first start of his career. This is Maye’s first professional trip in his career, and while he looks impressive on the field, he makes a rookie mistake at the podium.
Maye will look to get his first win as a starter, but he is also attempting to build more of a fan base for the Patriots in London. However, in his bid to get some more fans for his team, he made a bit of an error:
Drake Maye asked why English fans should support the Patriots:

“First off I think it comes with the name: New England.”
That was Maye’s response when asked why the Patriots should get more fans in England. The main issue with that idea is that all of the Patriots’ organization, including their logo, branding, and even their name, goes back to the Revolutionary War. The team embodies America getting its independence from the British and is probably not the best reason for the team to gain more of a fan base there.
NFL Fans All Roasting Drake Maye For His Comment
Fans on social media did not take long to point out Myae’s mistake, but many of them were loving the comment. Some fans were roasting the young rookie while others thought it was all in good fun:
“Not sure that’s the angle you wanna take on that one,” said NFL analyst Sam Monson.
“History class was during football practice,” said one fan.
“Between openly calling Rodgers the Goat as the Patriots QB and now this I am beginning to think Drake Maye is not the smartest fella,” another fan said.
“Ain’t no way the red coats are rooting for a team named the Patriots,” one fan said.
“Absolutely hate that he got drafted by the Pats because he seems like an unintentionally hilarious guy who I’d root for anywhere else,” said another fan.
Maye will definitely not win over any English fans with that comment, but he can certainly win them over with his play and his first victory as a starter. If he is able to get the first win of his career in London, perhaps that will attract more fans to follow his story and root for him.
