The New England Patriots are in a new era for the franchise after moving on from Bill Belichick this off season. Now, new reports are saying that they will be moving on from quarterback Mac Jones as well. While it was reported earlier in the week that the team is almost certain to draft quarterback with their number 3 overall pick, now NFL insider Ian Rapoport revealed that the team is also looking to trade to Mac ahead of the 2024 season.
Ian Rapoport Says The New England Patriots Are Looking To Trade Mac Jones
NFL insider Ian Rapoport said the team will look to trade Mac Jones this off season, and that teams have reached out to see what the former first round pick would cost them in a trade.
“The #Patriots appear open to trading QB Mac Jones and teams have been calling them and doing work on the former starter, sources say,” Rapoport said. “With a new coaching staff, a fresh start may make sense for all sides.”
This just build on the earlier report this week that the team is almost certainly going with the best quarterback available at their number 3 selection in the draft.
Mac Jones Is Officially On The Trade Block
This does not come as the biggest surprise as Mac has had a very troubling last few season with the team and a different offensive coordinator every year. Way back in January Mark Daniels of MassLive predicted that Jones would end up on the trade block.
“At this point, there’s a growing assumption that the Patriots will look to trade Jones this offseason,” Daniels wrote. “That plan likely hinges on the type of asset they’d receive for the young quarterback.”
While Jones has had a few down year sin a row he is still just 25 years old and di show potential in his rookie season. There should be some type of market for him this off season, but it is likely that teams will wait till after the draft even to see if they can get their quarterback before looking in to Jones.
