Tonight in the NFL we have the Las Vegas Raiders hosting the Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday Night Football. We will see Easton Stick make his NFL start on primetime against Aiden O’Connell. At face value, this game does not look appealing at all. Especially now that the Chargers have ruled out star receiver Keenan Allen. Like I said, this game does not look great on paper, but I will give you my best bet if you are looking to throw some money on this game.
Both teams come into this game 5-8 on the season and the playoffs are probably out of the picture. Even more so for the Chargers given that Justin Herbert will be out for the year after his finger surgery. It’s been a tough year for the Chargers in which a lot of NFL fans had them as possibly competing with the Chiefs for the AFC West division title. The Raiders, since getting rid of Josh McDaniels have seemed in better spirits, but it still isn’t really translating into wins.
Easton Stick did struggle last week after replacing Herbert, but I still think that now that he has had some time to prepare, although it was a short week, any preparation is better than none. Also, Kolton Miller, Josh Jacobs and Maxx Crosby all being hurt, hurt the chances for Vegas in the injury category as well. Still however, Crosby has not been officially ruled out yet and he could be a gamechanger for them.
I feel like this could be a really pass heavy game. Vegas passes the ball at one of the highest rates in the league at 60%. O’Connell averages at least 35 passing attempts per game. Now that they are playing against one of the worst pass defenses in the league, you can expect to see Devante Adams get a ton of targets tonight. Also, with Jacobs going down with an injury would help O’Connell’s case as well.
The Raiders are favored by 3 points tonight. After not scoring a single point last week, this shows you how much faith they have that the Chargers will struggle tonight. I think Vegas will be trying to put as much pressure on Stick as they can, especially if Crosby is able to play tonight. The Raiders defense ranks 9th in scoring and are very good against the run. With Stick possibly struggling to pass the ball, the Raiders will be able to stack the box and limit the production of Austin Ekeler and Joshua Kelly.
Tyler’s Best Bet
Raiders -3/U 34.5
With all of the factors I explained above, this game will probably be very ugly. I think the Raiders will be more prepared and they will prevent Stick from doing anything productive tonight. The Raiders are -3 on DraftKings. I think the Raiders find a way to cover this spread. I am also going to take the under 34.5 as well. With little to no production possible for the Chargers, and the Raiders scoring 0 points against the Vikings last week, I just don’t see a world where this game goes over this total even with how low it is.
