Over the past few seasons, the NFL Global Markets Program has attempted to make an international push to spread American football around the world. With the establishment of international games in countries like England, Germany, and Mexico, the League has already made quite a move to become a global brand. The struggle for the league is that they need advanced marketing in other countries to be able to get more fans interested in the sport.
National Football League Global Markets Program Makes Huge Expansion Plans
On Monday morning, the League went through and announced a major expansion to their over-seas program saw a huge boost that saw professional football teams claim international turf. The NFL announced that many teams came out on X (formerly known as Twitter) and many teams came out and advertised their nations.

It will be interesting to see the challenges that some of these teams face in countries that the League hasn’t put much effort into marketing before. Countries like Nigeria and New Zealand are fairly untapped markets and it will be interesting to see how the National Football League makes a push to get fans in those regions. The teams that were stuck with the more difficult regions (Cleveland, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia) will have a major struggle breaking through to the locals.
While the overall concept has never been attempted before, the League has a good opportunity to spread this sport like it never has before. No longer will the sport depend on an occasional international game where they have to rent a stadium from a local soccer club. With the rapid development that this program is taking, we probably aren’t too far off of the NFL generating teams and even leagues in other countries.
While American Football is primarily a national sport (as the name suggests), the League is convinced they can spread around the globe and turn into an international mega-conglomerate.
